At the GHS, all doctoral candidates are required to have a Doctoral Agreement. With this document, the thesis committee and the candidate reach an agreement that consists of a long-term plan of courses, objectives and framework conditions for the candidate during the whole PhD. For reference, please see PR Art. 3.5 and Study Plan Art. 3.3 and 4.3 (old regulations) or PR Art. 10 and Study Plan Art. 7.2 and 8 (new regulations).
A completed and fully signed Doctoral Agreement is required in the following three situations:
1. Upon admittance to the GHS: The Doctoral Agreement must be submitted by the deadline specified in the acceptance email from the GHS Coordinator, Dr. Tullia Padovani. Please submit it to Dr. Tullia Padovani with the GHS Office in cc.
2. With the yearly Progress Report only in case of major changes, which are changes in the:
- supervision team
- degree specialization
- funding source
- supporting measures
Any other changes to the Doctoral Agreement count as minor changes and do not require a re-submission. However, minor changes must nevertheless be discussed with and approved by the thesis advisor.
3. Before the PhD thesis defense: The Doctoral Agreement must be submitted with the other required defense documents. This final Doctoral Agreement must be up-to-date and reflect all modifications from the first Doctoral Agreement. If there have been no modifications, the Agreement still needs to be re-signed by the entire supervision team.
